It then suffered a bottleneck in the early 2005 until its supply finally reached a surplus in mid 2005. The car was also introduced in Japan but did not receive financial success due to tax issues.

As noted above, a used Smart car purchase is a viable choice for many first time drivers as it is cheaper than buying brand new. This has meant that many used Smart units have been sold and are many drivers' first cars. Even though a used Smart will have had some use from its previous driver, the fact is that the car will still provide the driver with excellent fuel economy - regardless of it being a used Smart.
