New and Used Lotus Cars
The world of sports cars is no longer limited to rear wheel drives. Today, even non-racing commercial passenger cars such as hot hatches, muscle cars, sports sedans and sport compacts belong to this category.
Lotus is one of the few companies to land in the better of two world's sports and passenger automobiles. The company has always been popular for its participation in F1 races. From the racetracks to motorways, new and used Lotus cars are definitely speeding their way to supremacy and many used Lotus vehicles of the older generation make for excellent collectibles. A used Lotus > new Lotus anyone?
In 2008, Lotus released the latest Elise model. This two door convertible can accommodate two passengers and comes in two versions - the Convertible SC and the Convertible. Both trims come with the traditional refined motoring that handle and perform just like a race car. The two trims also introduce the new Tyre Pressure Monitoring System that signals the driver when there is a hole or decrease of air pressure in the tyres. In fact this particular system has become popular in many brands of cars but not least for new / used Lotus vehicles.
The two Elise versions differ only in their engines. The Convertible houses an I4, 1.8 litres, 189 hp engine that can reach up to 21 miles per gallon when in the city and 23 miles per gallon when on the motorway. The standard for its manual transmission is five speeds. Of the other, the new and used Lotus Convertible SC runs with a 1.8 litre, I4, 218 hp engine that achieves 20 miles per gallon while on the city roads and 22 miles per gallon when travelling on the motorway. The standard manual transmission is six speeds. Reviewers give it a thumbs-up for its optimum road performance, comfortable interior and sleek exterior. However, it receives a thumbs-down for its fuel efficiency - in particular the older used Lotus models.
The company claims that its 2008 brand new and used Lotus Exige cars are a perfect marriage of incredible handling and unbelievable performance. The 2008 Lotus Exige S and the Lotus Exige S 240 are a little bit more expensive than the Elise models though so it might be best to purchase a used Lotus Exige if money is tight.
Both the Exige S and Exige S 240 trims can carry two passengers. Lotus says that the driving force behind these incredible machines is the Toyota 2zz engine. The S in particularly has a 218 hp engine with a 1.8litre capacity, which reaches 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on motorway. The S 240, on the other hand, has a 240 hp capacity and can reach the same mileage range as the S. Reviewers give a positive nod for its top speed, acceleration, fuel efficiency and its futuristic exterior. It did not gain favour though for its simple dashboard and overstuffed cockpit.
As for the second hand car market many people do consider purchasing a used Lotus car because let's face it - who doesn't enjoy the performance of sports vehicles. In fact, buying a used Lotus makes sense for those that want the glamour of a sporty car but can't afford the pricey fees that come with such motors. The reality is that whenever a new type of sports car is released, they can be pricey. Therefore waiting and buying a used Lotus or a nearly new used Lotus might be worthwhile.
